What is Zakat and why is it important in Islam?
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, mandatory charity for Muslims who possess a certain amount of wealth. It purifies wealth and reminds believers of their responsibility towards the less fortunate, fostering a sense of community and social justice.
How is Zakat calculated?
Zakat is typically calculated as 2.5% of a Muslim's total wealth, including cash, savings, investments, gold, and silver, after deducting essential expenses and debts. Different assets may have different criteria for eligibility.
Who is eligible to receive Zakat?
